Carlton (Corky) Heller is a regionally recognized freelance photographer living in Emporia, Kansas. Corky pursued his passion for photography after completing a 35 year career in law enforcement. While best known for his landscape photography, he also photographs senior portraits, engagement portraits, family portraits, and does event photography. From 2014 through 2018, he has been an event photographer for the DK 200, the 200 Mile Premier Gravel Endurance Race, held in the Flint Hills of Kansas.
He has been a featured artist annually from 2015 through 2018 in the Emporia Arts Council Exhibition “Exposing the Dirt – Photos from the Ride.” His photographs have been published in Kansas Outdoors Magazine, Bicycling Magazine, and DK Magazine - The Official Magazine of the Dirty Kanza. In 2018, one of his photos was selected as the cover photo for DK Magazine.

He has done promotional photography for brochures and social media pages for the Emporia Police Department, the David Traylor Zoo of Emporia, the Emporia Public Library, the Emporia Arts Council, the DK 200, and La Grind bicycle races. His Kansas landscapes and area photography have been chosen by a number of local businesses and collectors of art for interior décor. Several of his photos were purchased for patient rooms at Hospice and Homecare of Reno County. His photography has been displayed in galleries at Emporia State University, the Emporia Arts Council, and Newman Regional Health.

His photography has received numerous awards and recognition. His photographs were chosen as Fans' Favorite in 2013, 2014, and 2015 by members of the Ranchland Trust of Kansas community and in 2016 he won the landscape category in their annual contest. During an exhibit at the Emporia Arts Council, his photograph of a native stone building was selected as Best of Show in the 2017 Emporia Camera Club Annual Print Show. His photographs won the Sweepstakes Prize in the Lyon County Fair Open Class Color Division in 2014, 2015, and 2018, and he won the Sweepstakes Prize in the Lyon County Fair Open Class Black and White Division in 2017.
He has given presentations to Emporia Unified School District K-4 students on the topic of snowflake photography and is a scheduled guest lecturer on November 5, 2018 at the Flint Hills Technical College regarding photography in relationship to Graphic Arts Technology.
