Front Gallery Exhibit: “Good Friends,” Animal Portraits by Madeline Clark
Madeline has been drawing since she was little. She drew on all her school notebooks and was reprimanded more than once about doodling in class. She has always gravitated toward animals, and these are the main subject of her work even today.
After earning her bachelor's degree in laboratory science, she decided she'd like to try painting with the hopes of turning an old hobby into a small side gig. She has since started painting in acrylic and watercolor and completes pet portrait commissions in her spare time.
Artist’s Statement:
“I have been in love with animals since I was a little girl. The relationship between animals and humans is fascinating both historically and in the moment. Most people have loved at least one animal, whether it be a pet or a wild creature from afar, in their lifetime. I always aim to capture the spirit of my subjects in my paintings. I have found the eyes are the most poignant aspect to get right. A gaze full of spirit and personality really brings a painting to life.
Animals speak to people in different ways but one thing I think we can all agree upon--they make good friends. I hope the creatures in my paintings can remind you of an animal that you have loved.”
