The Hutchinson Art Center is looking forward to exhibiting the work of Kansas artist Melinda McDaniel, alongside the assemblages of Susan Meyer, in our Front Gallery for the months of July and August!
Melinda McDaniel is a local artist who hails from Wichita, Kansas. A member of the community since 2013 and an all around creative, she flows between writing, singing, performing, and art. Her journey in Fine Arts expanded around 2020 initially using materials from her “day job” in Applied Arts as a means to express energies shown during dreams, meditations, visions, and downtime. From this she went on to participate in group showings and to publish her compilation “Lily, Are You Out There?”, available on Amazon and eBay. Her use of acrylics and mixed media has led her from drawings and acrylic pours to experimenting with the human form and landscapes in a semi-realistic style.

Susan Meyer is an artist who has lived in Hutchinson, Kansas for about 3.5 years, having previously lived in Southern California and a few years in Northern Germany. Professionally, she worked as The Colorweaver for about ten years in the late 1990 to 2000s, designing and creating one-of-a-kind Irish Dance costumes used in competitions. She has branched into photography, painting, textile art, weaving, and unique handmade junk journals. Her curiosity and desire to challenge herself led to testing the waters of assemblage art.
Susan’s dresses were shipped over the entire United States and eastern Canada, and various pieces of her art and photography are on display in many homes on the west coast. She now takes her assemblage art on the road here in Kansas, entertaining seniors in retirement homes with the quirky pieces.

Front Gallery: Mixed Media ART by RANAL HARrell YOUNG
OCTOBER 17th - NOVEMBER 15th, 2025
The Hutchinson Art Center is excited to host the work of artist Ranal Haral Young in our Front Gallery during the months of October and November.
This is what the artist has to say about their work:
“I have been working with painting and found materials since the 1970s. I love the idea of using non-traditional materials in artmaking. My work reflects my interest in spirituality, my love of reading, travel, collecting and being in nature. My interests outside of art are often pulled into my artwork. I accumulate old paper items, small objects, beads, rocks, tiles, twigs, broken glass and pottery shards. My pieces often start as small abstract or landscape paintings, born of my imagination. I prefer to paint on wood so I can scrape, gouge and manipulate the materials. These paintings often refer to weather imagery, energy states or symbolic states of mind. I then add collage elements such as old scrap or cut paper, beaded mosaic, or found objects to the piece. I respond intuitively to an image or object. Certain materials seem emotionally charged to me. In the crafting of my pieces, there is an interplay between the flow of ideas and responses and the organization of the materials into a finished work.”
This exhibition will be on display in the Front Gallery from September 12th - October 11th, 2025.
