front gallery: Unfolding Visions: Fluidity in Fiber by malissa long
AUGUST 8th - SEPTEMBER 6th, 2025
The Hutchinson Art Center is looking forward to exhibiting the work of Haysville artist Malissa Long in our Front Gallery for the months of August and September.
Malissa Long’s artistic practice explores transformation through textile arts, bridging functional craft and conceptual expression. Inspired by eco-dying, fabric manipulation, and wearable design, she creates work as a storyteller of social landscapes. Each piece emerges from a careful dialogue between technique and intention, whether mapping healthcare disparities, exploring community narratives, or revealing the hidden potential of overlooked materials.
Drawing from her background in fashion and years of textile instruction, she views fabric as a medium of connection and narrative. Through upcycling, natural dying, and innovative stitching, her work challenges viewers to reconsider the potential of textiles, transforming simple materials into powerful statements that illuminate personal and collective experiences. Each artwork becomes an invitation to look closer, to understand the complex stories woven into the seemingly simple act of creation.
This exhibition will be on display in the Front Gallery from August 8th - September 6th, 2025.

Front Gallery: Mixed Media ART by RANAL HARrell YOUNG
OCTOBER 17th - NOVEMBER 15th, 2025
The Hutchinson Art Center is excited to host the work of artist Ranal Harrell Young in our Front Gallery during the months of October and November.
This is what the artist has to say about their work:
“I have been working with painting and found materials since the 1970s. I love the idea of using non-traditional materials in artmaking. My work reflects my interest in spirituality, my love of reading, travel, collecting and being in nature. My interests outside of art are often pulled into my artwork. I accumulate old paper items, small objects, beads, rocks, tiles, twigs, broken glass and pottery shards. My pieces often start as small abstract or landscape paintings, born of my imagination. I prefer to paint on wood so I can scrape, gouge and manipulate the materials. These paintings often refer to weather imagery, energy states or symbolic states of mind. I then add collage elements such as old scrap or cut paper, beaded mosaic, or found objects to the piece. I respond intuitively to an image or object. Certain materials seem emotionally charged to me. In the crafting of my pieces, there is an interplay between the flow of ideas and responses and the organization of the materials into a finished work.”
This exhibition will be on display in the Front Gallery from September 12th - October 11th, 2025.
