This class will explore acrylic collage with emphasis on composition, quality of application, and creative freedom. We will practice our understanding of the elements and principles of art, and how they affect the aesthetics of composition. Using prompts, ephemera, and our own artwork, we will create postcard and/or larger collages that are personal, meaningful, and significant. Various techniques for creating special papers and collage elements will be offered. Group critique and evaluation will raise the bar on quality and understanding as we decide what makes good art...or art good!
The instructor will provide all supplies necessary to produce a ready to hang 4x6 collage, including substrate, tissues, acrylic paint and medium, brushes, brayers, scissors, stencils, stamps, and other ephemera, as well as one mounting board and one 8x10” frame per student. Larger substrates may be available, but not frameable in class.
Students may bring any personal supplies they might want to include in a collage (photocopies of favorite pictures, pieces of old paintings, ribbons, receipts, and other ephemera, favorite paints, brushes as desired).
Lunch will not be provided on site, however there are many fantastic local lunch options in downtown Hutchinson! Feel free to ask us for recommendations and/or directions to eateries in town.
