The Hutchinson Art Center is proud to feature the art of McPherson, KS artist, Louise Hutchison in the Main Gallery during the months of January and February.

Louise Hutchison creates her artwork using pastel on paper and oil on linen or panel. She is especially inspired by the play of light as it floods over her subjects. Hutchison chooses a variety of subjects, and her work now includes portraits, figure painting, still-lifes, and landscapes. In each of these works she focuses on the interplay of light and attempts to capture that unique moment in time.

“I feel that being an artist is a privilege as well as a gratifying existence. I concentrate on the light and the quiet beauty that surrounds us everyday. The eye can see so much more detail than can be painted; therefore, I attempt to select those elements of my subject that are most representative. The true artistry emerges as my vision of selected elements is assembled, while capturing the subject’s essence in a quiet and pleasing way,” says Louise Hutchison.

This exhibition will be on display in the Main Gallery from January 23rd - February 27th, 2026.
